What determines 3D-printing cost?

A clean, print-ready file needs less preparation than a photograph or concept that must first be interpreted as a three-dimensional form. Repairing geometry, splitting parts, adding joints, and preparing supports all require skilled time.

For custom work, the approval process can also include proportion, pose, scale, and finish decisions before slicing begins.

Quotes account for material used by both the object and its supports, but grams alone do not explain the full cost. A print occupies a machine for a period of time and uses consumables while carrying the risk of a failed run.

Fine layers, dense walls, complex support, or a large build can extend production substantially. Two objects with the same outer dimensions can therefore have very different requirements.

Support removal and basic cleanup are different from extensive sanding, priming, multi-colour painting, fitting lights, or assembling several printed parts. The more human finishing an object needs, the less useful a simple per-gram price becomes.

Share the file or reference, intended size, quantity, use, finish, delivery destination, and any real deadline. If the budget is fixed, say so: scale, detail, material, or finish may be adjusted without losing the idea.

Be cautious with a quote made from dimensions alone when the provider has not reviewed geometry or finishing. A transparent estimate should explain what is included.
